Grown-up Crayons?
Oil pastel (crayons) creations from a workshop with Rosie Harbottle.
Continuing to play with mediums I am not too comfy with. OILS is one of them, so before I try the paint, I am trying the pastel.
I loved a crayon when I was a kid, so I am really not too sure why I don’t pick them up as a grown-up… maybe because I can’t control the shading, or I get a bit funny with the texture - the crumbs. So, when a TOAST workshop popped into my inbox—highlighting the incredible poster works of Rosie Harbottle—I signed up without overthinking it.
Not only was Rosie delightful - playfully clear and encouraging, guiding us through the playfulness of an oil crayon - she also introduced me to the palette of Sennelier - eeep! For any colourist, or textiles loyalist, it’s a meticulous display of pretty pigments one can only dream of mixing. Absolute luxury. It totally makes sense that Gustav was a Chemist.
These are really quite childish in line, but I am REALLY enjoying the freedom of accuracy, and also how quick these get whipped up.
Going to keep exploring… and not get too obsessed with the variety of colours now available to me! One a month. One pastel a month.
